<hi style=afpcap>The Cessna model T50 was purchased by the Army for evaluation as an advanced transition trainer with the designation AT-8. The rapid expansion of the Air Corps training programme resulted in the type being purchased as the AT-17 with a change of engine to the Jacobs R-775-9. 450 of the AT-17 model were obtained fitted with wooden propellers, before the AT-17A with metal propellers was ordered. 223 AT-17As were acquired, followed by 466 AT-17Bs and 60 AT-17Cs. Of these, 550 were exported to Canada as the Crane 1A under Lend-Lease. </hi>
